I have been busy working on the sample for this year's Christmas Workshop.
The project will be to make a Christmas Star Table Runner and a set of 6 matching Place Mats.
I've had great fun using fabrics from Moda's Fruitcake collection to make these, but of course you can use any fabrics you choose.
There will be an option to use the same blocks to make a Wall-Hanging or a Lap Quilt or Sofa-Throw, but I haven't made up the samples for these just yet.

There are four dates to choose from, if you would like to book a place on this workshop:
Saturday 30th October, Monday 1st November, Tuesday 2nd November, Friday 5th November.

Sewline Trio Fabric Marker

Thanks to Carmen in Mexico who put me on to the new Sewline Trio Marker.
This combines a white lead and a black lead in one marker, along with a third marker which which 'creases' the fabric in the same way that a Hera marker works.

Don't forget that Sleeping Bear Crafts will be at the "Ouse Valley Quilters' Quilt Show" on Friday 27th August (2pm to 4.30pm) and Saturday 28th August (10am to 4pm) at Ringmer Community College, Lewes Rd, Ringmer BN8 5RB

Also, Saturday 18th September is our annual Quilt Display & Fabric Sale at The Riverside Centre, Town Quay, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 2QR from 10am to 4pm.

Block of the Month

We have been promising this for quite a while; now the first Block of the Month project is finally available for Mail Order.
My popular Foundation Piecing Quilt, which I've called Crystal, is now available on a monthly basis.
You can choose whether to just receive the instructions or to have a fabric inclusive kit - which is offered in a choice of colourways.
You can also choose whether to have the instalments sent by post or to download PDF documents straight to your computer.

Fabric Clubs - 20% off Fabric for a whole year
I know how much you all love a bargain, judging by the number of people who took advantage of our 20% discount in July.
By joining one of our Fabric Clubs you will effectively receive a 20% discount on the supplied fabrics each month for a year.
There are four different Fabric Clubs to choose from - Batiks, Moda Collections, Blenders and  Specials.

I shall be trading at the "Ouse Valley Quilters' Quilt Show" on the Friday and Saturday of the August Bank Holiday Weekend.

Now a bit of sad news; regretfully, I have come to the decision to discontinue the Partridge Green Stitch and Chat afternoons. I am sorry to disappoint the quilters who attend regularly, but the amount of sales each month just doesn't make it economical to carry on.

The Newick meetings, on the other hand, continue to grow, with 20 - 30 regulars and new people coming along every month. I even have to take Alistair with me these days to help with the refreshments and all the tables and chairs!

The Newick Village Hall meetings are usually on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 2pm to 4:30pm.
Newick is a lovely village on the A272 between Haywards Heath and Uckfield in East Sussex.

It is a lovely big hall with plenty of tables if you want room to spread out a quilt
and lots of eager helpers if you need a hand with arranging your blocks or pinning your layers together.

Bring along some hand sewing or quilting if you can and anything you want to show off or get some advice about.

I will be there with boxes full of fabric, thread and notions. If there is something specific you are coming along for
then give me a call beforehand to make sure I put the right things in the car!

Just in from Moda, we have some of the Fruitcake range
a new Jelly Roll called Northwoods Botanicals with three co-ordinating fabrics.
and a new Christmas panel from the Makin' New Friends range,
this has six picture panels on it which are ideal for making Christmas Place Mats.

We've just finished adding 24 new fabrics to our online store, they are all on our Latest Fabrics Page.

There's a new landscape range from Moda called Modascapes, seven new Batiks from Island Batiks

Also, we have a new novelty animals range from Makower called Jolly Jungle
this includes a large Panel, eight 10 inch pictures in a single panel, small labels/picture squares, a border and a "crowded" animal fabric

There are also two other new Labels/Picture Square fabrics, Harvest Labels and Pirate Labels.

I know! it's two newsletters in one week, buit I thought I'd better let you know about this latest range just in.

New In - Quilter's Ruler Gripping Handles

We have managed to source a few Quilter's Ruler Gripping Handles.

These handles make holding your quilters ruler steady a doddle.

The two suction cups hold the handle very firmly to the ruler allowing you to easily apply sufficient pressure to ensure that your ruler doesn't slip when rotary cutting or marking fabric.
For smaller ruler the hanle can be attached with just one suction cup.
Using this handle helps reduce the strain on your both wrist and fingers.

Not much else to report this week as we are busy getting ready for Quilts in the Garden, which as you may remember has moved this year to Utoxeter Race Course.
